Growing up in Toronto showed me that there were all sorts of areas of life. One of the greatest impact on my life has been a simple trip to Yorkdale young adult. He gave me the chance to see so many successful urban women, young people, who have done something crazy.... paying their shoes with their own credit card. Crazy isn't! I used to go to the mall with my mother, and while she was looking for the merchandise, I admired the freedom and independence that exuded women. I remember to say here, then, is how I wanna be when I grow up.
Make no mistake, that it is not that I want never to marry and have a family - just not yet. I chose to do something to me first, which became independent and stable. And guess what (unlike my grandmothers belief), I am not alone.
Recent statistics say that the average age of persons to marry rose. If I look at just my close group of girlfriends, most of us own our own condo, a car and a career that we are working on. We have still the evening with friends and meet new people, but the only difference is that this happens less and that we are on a more limited budget. This does not stop us out and enjoy the freedom to do what we feel like this. Even those of us who are in relationships are our condos instead of moving in with boyfriend to save money. Financial freedom is imperative to young women - now more than ever.
It is not to be rich or drive a nice car, instead it is about knowing that we can take care of ourselves and walk in our room for the night, saying: "I did it". It is the most satisfying and rewarding feelings!
It seemed to me that this type of lifestyle may even make our relationship stronger and more effective - who knows? A study of BMO retirement Institute released in 2011: 40 per cent of women will be divorce before their 30th anniversary of the marriage life of women, a tomb by an average of 45% the first year after the divorce.
Some people may find these shocking findings, but not me. It is a personal choice to live alone, to work hard and play hard. The choice itself may be the reason why we do it! The next life chapter will include marriage and the family and I could even not to abandon the sanctuary of my condo, but at least I know that I have, and I can do it again should I must or choose from!
